Rock Creek Beaver Dam
February 10th, 2007 by K. Liisi Linask
I went out this morning to take a look at the beaver dam a little ways below Lake Needwood, along the Rock Creek Trail. With the sub-freezing weather we’ve been having, it was looking quite artistic with the interesting shapes from ice accumulation.

It looks like the beavers have been munching away at the downed tree across from their lodge. While I am not certain, I think the tree was recently felled, assuming that I’m reading the broken ice around it and the front paw prints in the leftover snow accurately.

The dam has been built up over the past year, as I don’t recall noticing it last winter. In the dam photo, the lodge can also be seen at the water’s edge to the left of center.
