Just Another Weekend
January 5th, 2008 by K. Liisi Linask
After a December of spending my weekends either internet shopping for the holidays or visiting relatives, things are back to my usual pattern for the first weekend in the New Year. Usual for me (at least in the last six months or so) is working with my computers on various projects and getting in a run at some point in the day. The projects are not far enough along to bother mentioning in detail just yet, but at least I am making some progress on them for a change. The running is gradually improving after finally getting closer to 100% recovered from a cold I picked up from my travels last month.
I finally managed to remember to register for this year’s Cherry Blossom 10 Mile on time before the registration closed, so I am training for that. I have recently been trying a different approach to my training: don’t take any days off! I used to consider it a rule to take at least one day off every week, but now I go out of my way to try not to miss any days. In fact the only day off I have taken since the middle of October was December 26, which I spent traveling to get back home from Washington. It took all day from 6 AM PST to 11 PM EST due to a number of flight cancellations and delays. This pattern of daily running is working quite well for me. I don’t run quite as long, but just more frequently. The last couple of months were mostly just easy runs to get used to daily running. It should be interesting to see how I hold up with this training over the next few months as I do longer and faster runs in preparation for racing 10 miles.
