New Theme

I finally have gotten my theme editing to the point where I am confident enough in the changes to upload it and try it out in the wild. I call it CloudyView. The layout and most of the code is based on the MistyLook theme, but I made a number of changes to the images and color schemes.

I spent the majority of this past week processing lysed ES cells into purified DNA. It was rather tedious, but my pipetting thumb should now be in real good shape for a thumb war.

WP-Cache Plugin

Over the past few days, I’ve been looking around at the various plugins available for WordPress. One that I came across over and over again was WP-Cache. From various comments, it seemed like the way to go to for a faster and more efficient site. Considering that this is a fairly new blog with very little traffic, it is probably not an absolutely necessary plugin at the moment. Halloween Candy

I haven’t gone trick-or-treating in years, yet I still somehow end up with more candy than I should have in a month every time the 1st of November rolls around. This year it is mostly Tootsie Rolls. Hello!

It almost seems like a requirement to have a blog when you’re a programmer, so I registered a domain, and started up this WordPress blog with my new hosting service. It’s something new to try out and should keep me occupied for a number of weeks with customizations to figure out and add.

While I have been working on programming the last many months, I have lost count of the number of times that I found some important bit of info from someone’s weblog that solved a problem that had me stumped for hours or even days. Hopefully, I can return the favor to some other newbie programmer out there some day.

I’ve always used Macs, so the majority of programming posts will most likely be Mac-centric, involving Cocoa and Objective-C. Being a runner, I will also write about that. I may even write the odd post about Molecular Biology, but since I spend so much time with that at work and get a little tired of it, I am sure it won’t be often.
